Bank fraud is one of the worst outcomes in the cybercrime world as it can mean you have experienced substantial financial lost. Navigating this can be challenging & if not properly handled, could lead to reoccurring hacking or fraud events. The first step is always to contact the bank, ideally by going into a branch physically where possible or by contacting the direct line to your bank. They will no doubt freeze your accounts & request that a review of your devices & security needs to be completed in order to proceed forward. Immediately contact us to begin an investigation into your case both for legal evidence & to secure your devices.
An Investigation of bank fraud may take many forms. This largely depends on the severity of the fraud, what has been taken & any pertaining evidence the bank may have on how it was taken.
In almost all cases there is a requirement by the bank for your devices to be analysed & cleaned before they will allow you to unfreeze your accounts. For this, we perform a complex forensic analysis on your devices to look for indications of remote monitoring or control. This can help us get to the bottom of how you were breached & perhaps even provide evidence that can be used in recovery of lost funds. All processes and evidence are completed & recorded for your own personal & legal purposes.
We also investigate your account structures & email systems for indicators of compromise or weak security that could have led to a direct breach or privileged information being available to the hacker.
In some cases, we may also be able to investigate the banks themselves for misconduct, breach of privacy policies or liabilities that may make them responsible for recovering or replacing lost funds.
Recovering from an instance of bank fraud is not easy. Not only have you had a financial loss, but you also have a number of concerning factors such as data loss, identity fraud, personal security, device security & account security.
From a financial perspective, recovery of the funds does become a challenging topic. Depending on your bank & the method of financial theft, there may be some in-house options that could help with fund recovery. However, the legislation in Australia is not favourable towards the consumer with a large portion of cases coming under vicarious liability, meaning that the bank is not legally responsible. We have media connections that may be able to assist with putting the pressure on the bank to support the consumer.
From a personal perspective, you are likely to be in a position where the hackers will continue to make attempts on you whether directly on the bank or by targeting other assets you have. By having us perform an investigation, we can identify threat points, gather & report evidence that is admissible and begin a plan to get you safe & back on your feet.
Most importantly out of everything is the future security. During our investigation processes, we will come out with a strong image of where your current personal security is at. This will no doubt be far from perfect & could very well be the reason for a future hack, fraud or identity theft case if not properly addressed.
Post investigation we will typically perform an array of operations, configurations on accounts & devices to ensure you have the best means of being safe moving forward. This way, you are no longer at risk of legitimate post hack threats, but you are prepared to defend against threats that may be entirely unrelated.
On top of this, we can provide you with a detailed report on all actions taken & exactly how they help protect you & your livelihood.
Phishing is the process in which a false entity, scammer or hacker attempts to fraudulently represent a legitimate person or company for the purpose of getting you to participate in their scam or cyber attack.
You may very well have a virus. It is important that if you unsure about the types of pop ups, do not interact with them! Contact one of our professionals or come in for an evaluation. Always better to be safe than sorry.
Although we do not have anything formally structured yet, it is something we are working on for the future. Call us in the mean time for any concerns you may have.
