My Wifi Has Been Hacked. What Can I Do?

WIFI is one of the most vulnerable technologies when it comes to data collection & device manipulation. Unfortunately, as our devices have become more mobile, we have become more reliant on the technology. As opposed to a cabled network that only sends and receives data through that cable, WIFI distributes data through waves which can be easily intercepted. This means, that to a hacker, they can potentially intercept personal data & cause your devices to go offline & potentially hack the router itself for greater control.

WIFI hacks are almost always personal. A hacker has to be within the range of the WIFI signal in order to cause any damage. This usually means that the attacker will go to great lengths to gather information / cause issues for you. We strongly recommend getting in touch with your team to evaluate your network to make sure it is safe to operate.

What Services Can We Provide?

Wifi Audit

Whether you are an individual or small business WIFI security is a critical system in our daily lives. All networks can be targeted by DOS attacks, de-auth attacks, packet interception & router hijacking. Unfortunately, more than often your basic settings or hardware provided by your ISP are unlikely to have the latest security procedures in place & therefore you may be vulnerable to attacks.

We can provide an in depth audit of your network & make sure that it is employing the latest security technologies & practices.

Network Upgrades

We are expert network engineers with experience in networking, cabling & maintaining security for large corporations such as Newscorp Australia & Dreamworld.

Penetration Testing

Being pro-active before incidents can occur is always the best way. When we perform an audit, we will perform a robust series of potential attacks that could unveil potential breach opportunities that you may have never considered.

After determining the holes, we can remediate against them & make sure your network & devices are protected from potential future attacks.

Frequently Asked Computer Questions

  • My Internet Is Running Slow. Could It Be Compromised?

Generally speaking, there are a lot of reasons why you could have poor performance including faulty hardware, range issues, ISP issues & interference.

With that being said, internet performance issues can also be a sign that your device is being targeted by a local attack. In most cases where there isn't a clear explanation, it may be worth getting investigated to be safe.

  • What Can Happen If My Router Is Taken Over?

Router security is extremely important. When a router is breached it can lead to all sorts of opportunities including Man in the Middle Attacks, performance issues, traffic monitoring & breach opportunities into independent devices.

It is really important that your router is sufficient enough to not be breachable. We highly recommend getting in touch to see if this is the case.

  • Is WIFI Safe Or is Cable Better?

Generally speaking, cable is generally the better answer because without physical access to the network infrastructure, no information can be obtained. With that being said, in most circumstances connection via cable doesn't need to be authenticated.

So for most circumstances, if your network infrastructure is secured and inaccessible to the general public or potential offenders, cabled devices is generally going to be safer.

Obviously, this isn't always realistic with most devices being wireless in nature. Fortunately, there are security standards that make breaches & information gathering much more difficult when using WIFI. We recommend getting in touch to determine if your network connection of choice is as best protected as possible.
